* english follows ~ lundi dernier j'ai eu le privilège d'être invité au magazine radio centre-ville en compagnie d'Amélie Lambert Bouchard, étudiante en animation culturelle qui voulait en savoir plus sur ratsdeville et comment le webzine remplit son mandat d'assister la communauté underground des arts visuels à Montréal. C'est avec grand plaisir que je vous invite à écouter peut-être ma meilleure entrevue radio à ce jour, humblement. Merci aux gens de 102.3FM ~ radio communautaire multilingue de Montréal de m'avoir accueilli durant ces précieuses 20 minutes d'antenne. En bon « artiste/travailleur culturel indépendant », j'ai profité de l'occasion pour plugger mon show .. ce samedi (contrairement à ce que dit la Gazette (ce n'est pas ce soir mais bien demain 9 mai)) au centre d'artiste Eastern Bloc aura lieu le « INTERDIMENSIONAL ART SHOW » à partir de 17h00 ~ 5.00 $ à la porte. À cette occasion ma dernière peinture que voici y sera exposée. Une belle occasion de se rencontrer ;)

Last Monday I had the privilege of being invited to "Radio centre-ville" along with Amélie Lambert Bouchard, a cultural animation student who wanted to know more about ratsdeville, and how the webzine fulfills its mandate in helping the underground cultural arts scene in Montreal. It is with great pleasure that I invite you to listen to what might be my best radio interview yet (in French), in my humble opinion. Thank you to the folks at 102.3 FM, the multilingual community radio, for having welcomed me for 20 precious minutes of airtime. And in being the "independant artist/cultural worker" that I am, I took advantage of the opportunity to plug my show...this Saturday (tomorrow) at the Eastern Bloc artist center: THE INTERDIMENSIONAL ART SHOW, starting at 5pm, with a 5$ cover charge.  This latest painting seen here will be on display. It would be nice to see you there ;)

IS ART A LUXURY OR A NECESSITY ? podcast

* anglais seulement ~ Chris « Zeke » Hand and myself talk about the ratsdeville newsletter as a ressource whithin the Montreal visual arts community, where it came from, how it started, its relation with ecotourism and the notion that art may or may not be a luxury. Basically we had a little less than 15 minutes to discuss the genesis of the webzine, it's communication and education purposes .. then we get caught in something of a polemic around the question of art being a necessity or a luxury in regards to the French-Canadian specifity of Montreal and the « malaise » around the art and money « odd couple ». Since there isn't such a thing as bad press, I'm actually glad the conversation went this route. Does art require an audience ? Is any form of expression art ? Is art a luxury or a necessity ? Let's hope they'll reinvite me soon, so we can tap into these hot topics and explore these unanswered questions :P

JASON BOTKIN : TRANS-FORMATIONS ~ podcast

As I understand it, a « podcast » refers to the recording of a conversation and/or musical track specifically meant for a web audience. In this podcast, you hear Jason Botkin and I talking about his solo show TRANS-FORMATION currently at Pangée.
Jason's work is engaging on so many levels for me, his extensive use of personal mythology and universal symbolism echoes my personal taste for a certain kind of visual/spiritual exploration.

Find out what's the deal with the medieval elements found in this particular series, visceras served in plates, his illustration/graphic novels aesthetics .. and what did his mom tell me at the opening regarding his childhood's nightmares ? We also talk about the invisible, alchimistry and death or, as Jason puts it, an expression of his perspective on death and life as a continuum, that of reincarnation, that spirits are imortal and the body acts as a vessel for one particular life .. ya.

The interview lasts a little less than 13 minutes .. and it's all worth it :)
