La question de l’Avenir est, de nos jours, fondamentale. ET APRÈS ? Nous vivons une époque charnière. Depuis deux siècles, le monde s’est accéléré de façon exponentielle : Démographiquement, technologiquement, idéologiquement et climatiquement ... La machine dans son ensemble s’est emballée et ne semble pas vouloir stopper. Un artiste du XIe siècle pouvait facilement prédire quelles seraient les conditions de vie de ses enfants et petits enfants. Aujourd’hui en 2016, nous en sommes totalement incapables. Les aztèques en leur temps ont senti venir un changement, et ont accueilli les armées de Cortès comme des cavaliers de l’Apocalypse. La fin de leur monde marqua le début d’un autre.
The question of what is to come has become fundamental. WHAT’S NEXT? We live in pivotal times. For two centuries, the world has accelerated exponentially: demographically, technologically, ideologically and climatically, the machine has become unchained with no end in sight. In the eleventh century, an artist could easily predict what the living conditions of their children and grandchildren would be like. Nowadays, we are unable to do so. In their day, the Aztecs felt a change coming and welcomed Cortes’ armies as they would the horsemen of the apocalypse. The end of their world marked the beginning of another.
Qu’en sera-t-il du nôtre ? Utopie humaniste ? Révolution technologique ? Cauchemar écologique ? Et pourquoi pas colonisation extraterrestre ? C’est autour de ces incertitudes, faites à la fois d’espoir et d’appréhension, que avons axé cette exposition. Les artistes invités furent conviés à mettre en images leur vision propre de l’avenir. Utopistes et fatalistes nous livreront leurs ressentis à travers leurs interprétations personnelles de l’avenir du monde. L’Art a cette capacité d’éclairer et de donner une vision. Qui sait si nous ne contribuerons pas à sauver la planète? - EL DIABLO PCP
What will become of ours? A humanist utopia? A technological revolution? An ecological n ightmare? And what of extraterrestrial colonisation? It is with these uncertainties in mind, made up of both hope and apprehension, that this exhibition was put together. The artists were invited to depict their forecasts of the world’s future, be they utopian or fatalistic. Art has the ability toclarify and consolidate visions.
