Haute Tension is a brash photo exhibit that challenges the way we see our daily urban environment. Henri Hadida points his camera up, towards the power lines and telecommunications cables that form a net over our daily world. He denies indifference as an option, making this mundane subject instead a story of aggression and confrontation.
Hadida manipulates his photographs, adding flat, unreal colours in between the high-contrast grid of his subject. He creates a feeling of pure abstraction out of something we are all so familiar with. “Whether it is love or hate that you feel towards it, the Haute Tension show is experienced in opposition to the indifference that our environment usually elicits” says curator Lucie Lederhendler, “when curating this show we specifically wanted to emphasize the energy of the works by mirroring that intensity in the installation – I could not be more excited about the result.”
Hadida wonders if the clutter created by the power lines above us showcases a greater lack of consideration. Had we been asked, he challenges, would we have allowed it? We invite you to come and decide for yourselves.
