CEASE Art Collective announces The Dirtiest Hands, an exhibition of collage, print, and book art by Montreal artist and printmaker Jp King. Jp King’s irreverent and whimsically grotesque collages explore human gesture and contact, using scissors to sculpt figures from post-war international magazines, textbooks, manuals, and mail-order catalogues. Also a writer, King often utilizes text to illuminate emotional pivots in his visual work.
On display will be a single twenty-seven-foot-long accordion-folded book that tells the story of an imagined Canada ruled by a horse, in which demasculinized men face mandatory heroship roles and utterly fail. Also on display will be a collection of the artist's collage work, mixed media transfers, and prints.
Jp King's collages and books have been shown in Toronto, Halifax, Ottawa, Minnesota, and Stockholm, and have been circulating Montreal since We Will Be Fish, his book of poetry and collage, was a Drawn & Quarterly Best Seller in 2008. A printer-by-trade, his work has most recently been showcased in local publications Papirmasse and Décover Magazine.
