Burritoville : 2055 Bishop
I am exploring the notion of the Grotesque in the body interacting with the cosmos, the earth, and the world at large. In the merging of bodies with the environment, there is invariably a turning of tables wherein chaos erupts into order, causing the displacement of identity, reality, or any such 'structures' we impose to order our existence. The eruption of the grotesque, yet natural, 'unknown' is something I want to present at ''the gateway of'. My pieces will consist of beings becoming, transmuting, transforming with their environment; likewise, some pieces will explore the physical landscape of these potent liminal spaces between the veil of night and day using a complex network of visual imagery. I seek to bring the intangible 'world-behind-the-curtain' into the light through a mixture of imagery derived from my own personal mythology, in addition to various other cultural, mythical, philosophical, and literary sources.
My images are inspired by a drive to articulate a language that can describe the land of sunken cities dreaming, beyond the veil of daytime reality. I derive my imagery from unconscious embarkations to such shadowy shores of dream from which I bring back fragmented narratives that I hope will resonate with daily anxieties and fears. I am obsessed with the notion of memory, identity, and the grotesque nature of the human being interacting with time, the cosmos, and the being 'within' the essence of things."
