The collective theme of the artist’s work revolves around the intricate workings of the human body and the effect of physical pain on the spirit and soul. Kader uses her art as a liberating and therapeutic arena, where science and abstract creative ideas converge to offer the viewer a bold new vision of the inner life of the body.
Living with the painful and visible manifestations of rare and little understood physical ailments known as Madelung's Deformity and Leri-Weill Dyschondrosteosis, Kader has struggled to come to terms with her own physicality and its role in how she understands herself and her relationship with the world around her. Her condition has challenged her to explore the relationship between the interior and exterior workings of the human body.
Kader’s work uses a technique that involves layering and texturing using oil-glazing and mixed media to get a variation in surfaces. “Medical X-rays and images of the interior of my own body are the starting point of each piece,” Kader explains. “Layering allows me to symbolize my emotional changes as my body reforms. My artwork has become the voyage I wish to express, allowing me to educate others about the power of perseverance through my continued struggles with Madelung's. My work is testimony to the fact that endurance always wins.”
