ABOUT THE EXHIBITION
Where do we come from? An answer to this eternal question can be found in every religion: genesis stories are found in the Bible, the Rig Veda, the San Wu, the Koran, the Egyptian Book of the Dead. For some, the universe was hatched from a giant cosmic egg, for others it grew from the armpits of the giant Ymir. But these stories don't satisfy our curiosity, and with the advances of science, the question "where do we come from?" has found new answers: we come from DNA, from stardust, from the Big Bang.
Has science replaced God? The series of prints titled "Genesis Revisited" examines the contemporary reinterpretation of our genesis. Collaged onto texts from major world religions are images of actual "stardust", collected by the Stardust probe in 2006. These works dovetail with the artist's earlier series "We are Stardust". Alongside these new works the artist also presents three paintings from her earlier "Moon" series, which depict moons orbiting the planet Jupiter which harbour the possibility of extraterrestial life.
